At last after a long and cold winter (although the cold bit appears not to have changed), the season has begun. And CR Motorcycles has kicked it off with some rather nippy testing at Oulton Park and Mallory. Oulton Park, known as being one of the most beautiful tracks both because of its cracking lines and its lush green surroundings – It was an obvious place for Colin to get his groove back on the bike. Due to the Baltic weather, it was however, less lush green and more slightly barren!
The aim of the day was to shake down the bike and do a bit of fettling to get it all working properly before some serious testing at Mallory. It was also interesting to see if the winter training Colin had been doing had made any difference at all! – He fitted into his leathers so that was a good start!
Over the winter Colin had stripped and rebuilt the bike, changed the jetting to richen it up to match the new exhaust, changed the tyres to racetecs and reset the rear shock to give it more stability under braking.
The day went well – bike felt smooth and wanted to turn. It pulled like a steam train and the only thing that was holding it back was the rider! But he was rapidly getting to grips with the beast. Track temputure was blinking low and there were a couple of dodgy moments but he was looking pretty quick and competitive.
Unfortunately, snow stopped play so we decided to pack up and miss the last couple sessions and get on the road to Mallory. Good day, awesome track and great bike!
